THE SOLEMNITY OF THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

Dear Parishioners,

This Sunday we celebrate the Solemnity of the Body and Blood of Christ – the celebration we usually call ‘CORPUS CHRISTI’. On this day we give thanks for all that the Mass and Holy Communion mean to us. The rich truth of the Lord’s gift to us of his Body and Blood is summed up very beautifully in one of the Antiphons for this Feast, traditionally understood as coming from the pen of St Thomas Aquinas:

‘O Sacred Banquet, wherein Christ is received, the memory of his Passion is renewed, the mind is filled with grace and a pledge of future glory is given to us.’

RE-COMMISSIONING OF LAY MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION at Our Lady of Refuge at 6pm Saturday and 9am Sunday Masses this weekend.

COLLECTION FOR THE PAPAL VISIT

Many thanks to everyone who contributed so generously to this Appeal. The Parish has raised £540.60.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!

At least two more volunteers are needed to assist with the cleaning of the Church at Cromer. This means only being available about once a month, or slightly less. If you can help, please tell Dorothy Shannon (Tel: 01263-577272)

SHERINGHAM AND CROMER CRUSTACEA FESTIVAL

At the auction of the lobsters and crabs last Sunday, about £15,000 was raised for the two designated charities: ‘Help for Heroes’ and the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (for several local life-boat stations). The lobster that has been on show at St Joseph’s went for £200; I am still waiting for news of how much our ‘Cromer Crab’ raised.

REVISED ROTAS FOR MINISTERS OF HOLY COMMUNION AT ST JOSEPH’S

All Ministers should by this weekend have received, either by hand or by post, the Revised Rotas, beginning this Sunday. Kevin Jones has indicated on these revised Rotas the location for each Minister each Sunday. I hope this will make life easier for everyone – so that you may know which side of the Altar to go to when you come up; and then exactly which position you are to take up for the distribution of Holy Communion.

I am very glad to be able to announce that Manu Mathew and Sean White have agreed to be commissioned as Ministers of Holy Communion. This will be a great help, as we have been rather short of Ministers recently. Manu and Sean will attend a Diocesan Commissioning Day as soon as possible, but I have commissioned them provisionally myself for the time being.

VISITORS TO OUR PARISH

You are most welcome and we hope you enjoy your stay with us. We provide Gift Aid envelopes for those visitors who normally use this method for their church giving. Envelopes are to be found in the pews (and on the window sills at Our Lady of Refuge). Will you please complete in ink or biro with your full name and address, including post-code. The date of Declaration will be the date you make the donation. I would also like to draw your attention to the ‘Sheringham Stations of the Cross’ books that we published at Easter, to mark the centenary of the building of the main part of St Joseph’s. These books have excellent coloured reproductions of the Stations, accompanied by Meditations. These unique Stations were commissioned by Sir Giles Gilbert Scott, the architect of St Joseph’s. They were carved in the renowned Stuflesser Workshops (then in the Austro-Hungarian Empire). The books also contain a few historical notes – items that had not come to light when the St Joseph’s Parish History appeared in 2008. The ‘Sheringham Stations of the Cross’ are on sale in both our churches, price £3.50.
